Communal Gardens

DCGP has two communal gardens: Hillside Community Garden (306 E 8th St) and Emerald Community Garden (2001 W 4th St).

These gardens are managed communally, meaning that all gardeners work together to plant, maintain, and harvest the produce. Gardeners are led by a Communal Garden Manager, a DCGP staff member that is an experienced gardener. The Communal Garden Manager guides gardeners throughout the season, coordinating work days, helping design the garden, and directing gardeners in weekly tasks. Communal gardens are a great option for beginning gardeners that would like some guidance, as well as people that like to work in groups and desire a more social gardening experience.

Hillside Community Garden is currently full for 2022, but the Emerald Community Garden, located in Lincoln Park, still has some space. To sign up to garden at the Emerald, please visit our registration page: 2022 Registration
